haven't done nothing on the efi issue yet but a lot of reading. bought an ecm for the 97 model yr to try out after i read up on it some more.
took a run on the big road, 4 lane, for a bit and stopped and checked the plugs and they were what i would consider perfect then came back side rd, stop-start sorta thing, and checked again and the plugs were the same. to me thats a good thing. it still revs up occasionally, 19-2100rpm when stopped but returns to idle shortly. stalled out once and restarted rich when stopped. took another longer 4 lane run, for me, 150mi at a good pace, running late, with the other half and i am quite happy with the step up in the performance. it was most notable in the 70-75mph range with more available compared to the stock set up. couple of hi-revs and stalls when stopped but ran good.
anyway, just a burp on the situation to date with one more ride to come this sunday, beach's toy run oct.5th, and done for the season. in early march or so i will get into the heart of this efi issues for next season. thanks for the input guys and as i come across any grey areas i will be asking.

Reason: info
I am not at all familiar with that particular system, but if anything like the newer one, check idle air controller, air temp sensor, and throttle position sensor for proper operation. Just trying to help. If my info is wrong, my apologies.

The hi revs, and then them kicking down are symptomatic of an Idle Speed Control motor issue. You can try cleaning it, then resynching the ECM to the IAC. May also be an Engine Temp Sensor.

funny you mention the temp sensor. i stopped at an old buddys place who has been a car wrench for years. i pulled the plugs at his place for a look see and i wanted his thoughts on the plugs. they were perfect and when i put them back and fired it, still warm-not hot, it fired right up and idled normal then it did the run up thingy for a short time. his first comment was temp sensor as it related to him and the car world. interesting ?
my thoughts also. this summer i will get a group pic of the old cars and truck with the bike and have it done. really have to see it live to see the talent. a pic of a pic doesn't do it justice.
