I have just completed putting in a set of HeadQuaters cams to my 05 FLSTFI.
I purchased a set of SmithBros. push rods, adjustable type. have snuged these up between the lifters and rocker arm. Can twist slightly by hand but there is no end play.
How many turns do I want to put on to the rod, 1 or 3? have seen both numbers. Does the cylinder need to be @ TDC when this adjustment is being performed? Any help is apreciated Thanks
I hope you've already found your answer. I searched their website (cuz my bike is out-of-commission for a while and have nothing better to do) and found nothing.
It varies between pushrod manufacturers depending on the adjuster thread pitch.
You'll have to refer to the documentation that came with the pushrods or give them a call.
If you want to depress the hydraulic unit .100 and the thread pitch (for example) is 40, that would need 4 full turns or 24 flats. Hex nuts have 6 flats per turn.
Whatâs all this mean?
For 24 TPI you would turn 15 flats to get a preload of .1042
For 28 TPI you would turn 17 flats to get a preload of .1011
For 32 TPI you would turn 18 flats to get a preload of .0937
For 36 TPI you would turn 21 flats to get a preload of .0965
For 40 TPI you would turn 24 flats to get a preload of .1000
Thanks for all the help. I will pull the PR and measure the pitch of the thread looks like 32TPI
