Just bought a 2005 Heritage with Screamin Eagle mufflers. They are louder than I would like. Did a DB test and it showed 87 to 89 at idle. Any Idea on how to drop it to something tolerable. I have been told to insert a stainless steel pot scrubber into the inlet side. Any ideas would help
That's the problem. You can look for a set of baffles someone took off to make their pipes louder. Might even find some here in the for sale section.
You can also look into the Thunder Torque inserts sold by DK Customs. I have no personal experience with them but they seem to be used by a few of the members here who really like them. And they're not pricey. http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/Thun...nserts_c57.htm
The DK Custom Products Thunder Torque Inserts were designed to increase low and mid range torque and improve the sound of the pipes by reducing engine pumping losses and increase exhaust gas velocity and scavenging.
There are two models of TTI's available, the 'W' model and the 'Q' model which can be used either with or without baffles. With the 'Q' model installed you will get less sound volume, especially at cruising RPM and under throttle. With the patented 'W' model you'll have a deeper sound through the RPM range and under throttle; the 'W' model will also provide an increase in torque over the 'Q' model.
My experience with the 'W' model TTI is they don't make the pipes actually louder but rather deeper. They remove the bright brassy tones and leave a deeper resonance.
You can read additional information along with videos on the Thunder Torque Inserts HERE
Do a search for motorcycle exhaust lollypops if you have access to a welder and are mechanically inclined....DIY version of Thunder Torque Inserts....or just buy them, can't go wrong for the price.
