Default 2016 CVO, newbie exhaust questions

Hey guys, got my first HD and went all in with a CVO Limited. What an awesome bike - and it took my wife from enjoying a ride to loving it.

Now I've got it broken in so the first thing I want to do is make it a bit louder, stop barbecuing my right leg, and help the engine breath better (in that order), and so much the better if I can get a little extra giddyup too. All while staying in warranty.

I've read until my head is spinning. I want to stay with 2 live pipes so I think I want Jackpot 2-1-2 or the equivalent fullsac headers to eliminate the cat and the heat. New slipons for volume. I'm comfortable doing that amount of wrenching myself.

My question - will this require a tune or does the ECM compensate? I'm more tech-friendly than wrench friendly. Can I/should I buy a tuner and do anything myself, or do I buy tuner part x and write a check for a guy to put it on a dyno? If I need tuner parts, what do I need?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

You'll definitely need to re-tune it. If you're hell bent on doing it yourself, the Fuelpack 3 is being used by lots of riders. It links up to your smart phone and is cost friendly. However, there is no replacement for a good Dyno tuning session from a competent Tuner. Auto tuning will get the engine close to where it needs to be but a Dyno should put it right on the money.

Thanks for the Fuelpak info, I've been learning about PV vs PCV and hadn't heard of the Fuelpak. From what I understand the tuner will be required for the header pipe but I could do slipons and tuner first and then be in position to change the header later? That might be my best route, gives the wallet a chance to recover lol.

I'm not dead set on doing it all myself, I know I'm not an engine tuner. If I'm having it done professionaly do I even need a tuner kit or is that something the mechanic will require to tune my bike? If that's the case it becomes more what he knows and likes vs my ignorant guess as to what I need.

Thanks for the response. I'm just trying to learn, it's a lot to digest and I appreciate the help!

You won't need a tuner just to change over to a new set of slip-ons. You will need one when the Tuner starts changing the variables on the engine while it's on the Dynamometer. I'd go with whatever device the Tuner works with whether it's the Powervision or SEPST or you decide to go the Fuelpack 3 route. There's a company called Fuel-Moto that specializes in HD baggers. Try giving them a call, they can tell you all you need to know better than I can.
