Question, when I went in to pick up the Stage one AC kit and told the parts guy that I had my mufflers on the way and would be putting them and the AC kit on myself he asked if I knew that the bike would need to be re-calibrated. I told him I did realize this and would be riding down for the re-map when I was done and metioned that I understood it to be $150. He acknowledge that it was and said he didn't think that the $150 included the dyno. When I asked why they would dyno for a stage 1 re-map he said they would "dial it in". I stated I thought it was a straight download no messing and he said that it could be fine tuned. When I inquired with my sales guy he ststed they dyno them to be sure they have the right fuel curve and the dyno run would let them stand behind the work. Again I didn't think you could do anything expect download a Stage 1 map and thats it. The service department was not open so I could not inquire there but figured I would seek some outside assistance before talking to them. Anyone heard of such things?
I had a dealer tell me the same thing. When I questioned him as to whether they could fine tune HD's download, he said no, but they dyno to make sure "the download took". The way I see it I'm paying them to do the download, why should I have to pay more for them to confirm they did the job right? I took it to another dealer, $200, no problems.
NO DYNO NEEDED for a stage download, they are trying to lighten your wallet, that's all. The download can be checked with the digital tech to see if it "TOOK" for what ever that means. They can use the cartridge download, but most dealers use the digital tech for it and can print out what is downloaded with the dig. tech. No need to dyno it for anything other than running up the bill. They couldn't "tweak" it in any case either. It is a straight you get what you get and that's as good as it gets deal. There are NO adjustments that can be made.
Have some fun with them and ask them what exactly is tweaked and how it's done with the stage download and do tell me what they say...Please.
Now if you were talking a race fueler, then the dyno is manditory for it............. but NOT a download!
