How Hot Can You Run A Twin Cam Without Damage

RE: How Hot Can You Run A Twin Cam Without Damage
Bryan,
I will be checking out your theory of the thinner air late Aug when it is really hot in the Smokies. Will be riding to Maryland, picking up Skyline drive, down to the Blueridge Parkway all the way down to Cherockee, NC.
Even in 90 degree weather this thing never gets past 200 degrees when moving, at sea level, but it sure doesnt like idling much longer than about 10 minutes in traffic to start getting up to 250.

I have a 99 FXDL 95" pushing 100hp. It constantly ran 240 - 250+ when fully heated up on the road. I installed an HD oil cooler and it now runs at about 212 around town and about 225 on the road, in summer temps (85 - 105). No motor damage that I can find.

It's too bad that the factory couldn't figure out how to keep the engine cool and pass e.p.a. certification. The TC's run about 30 degrees hotter than the Evo's. There are people in the industry who have this problem figured out. The R&R 155" engine passed 50 state certification with flying colors and never went over 205 degrees in the 15,000 mile test in southern California. Reggie Sr told me that he did it with volumetric efficiency. The same technology is used in all of their performance packages and have been documented to take 30 to 50 degrees out of the engine from the stage 2 thru the stage 5 packages. We are proud to be a distributor for their products.
Their new patented cam plate cam cover will generally pull 10 degrees temp out of the oil and solve a whole litteny of other problems. There performance packages even more.

While R&R does a great job they're not the only ones who can lower motor temps with more efficient combustion processes. Anyone who does motor work that makes the combustion process more efficient will be able to lower motor temps........but it was a nice advertisement
