2012 Dyna street Bob with Cobra slip-ons. Considering installing the dkcustoms thunder torque inserts. What's the difference in leaving the baffles in or removing them before installing the inserts?
thanks
Don't know exactly why they recommend removing the baffles, but that's what I was told would work the best. I would think that the inserts work better without getting the restricted flow from the baffles. Contact DK and I'm sure they'll give you a better explanation.
I just pulled the standard baffles out of my Vance & Hines Side Shots and installed the Torque Inserts.
You'll want to measure your pipe and decide what direction you're going before you order, I wouldn't have been able to fit the inserts in my pipes with the baffles still installed if I wanted to.
Sound wise, I don't know that the DK inserts are any quieter than the standard baffles, if so, marginally..but they certainly weren't any louder. (in the 90 degree position)
Low end response felt slightly better, I was looking for more back pressure and these seem to help (from the butt dyno anyway)
Then I took out the baffles and reinstalled the TTI`s. My observations are as follows.
Exhaust note much louder and deeper which to me sounded better. Lost a little torque only at the very beginning of acceleration but comes back strong around 2500 RPM`s.
One thing I noticed was how smooth the bike ran when shifting through the gears at all RPM`s. The baffles will stay out until I decide to go to a 2 into 1 pipe.
