Default Any tips to keeping heat shields from loosening?

Hi all,

Every so often my heats shields loosen a bit and I get a little vibration @3000 rpm and a little rattling. Will blue locktight help ? Any other tips?

Thanks...........goldie

Have you tried fresh clamps? The loc tite would help too. I wouldn't be scared to use red. Heat releases it so worse case, you've got to warm the bike up to get them busted loose.

do not think lock-tite is the ticket. vibration and heat cycles will tend to loosen the clamps so i would add some friction to the worm by tightening down on the worm cover.

I find using a screwdriver to install them is not tight enough. I always use a nut driver now and they don't come loose.

Ideal makes real good stainless steel clamps and tighten the with a 1/4" ratchet... Nice and tight and you won't need loctite. Where you gonna put it anyways... It's not like a nut and bolt setup...

Thanks to all for their suggestions, please keep them coming. I do use a socket to tighten them up. I like the look of the Ideal clamps but it was too late to find out more today so will check that out tomorrow. ....goldie

If your bike is a few years old, then try new clamps.

Thanks all,

I have some new Ideal clamps on the way. I'm in Montana and the bike is in AZ so it will be a few weeks before I get back down that way and install them.
BTW they are size 20 with a 1/2" width band as per V&H tech support.....goldie
