Default Cobra 3" RPTs for sportster

Today I installed my new Cobra 3"RPTs 6080, for my sportster, XL1200L. The bike has an S&S air filter, Vieds fuel management, and now the Cobra exhaust. It has factory ecm tuning at this time.
They came with 2" cores.
My previous exhaust was a pair of factory mufflers, that I had removed the cores, drilled out every passage hole from 1/8" to 3/16", and reinserted and rewelded to the factory shell. They sounded better than stock, but not like I wanted. Performance was good, low end power very good.

The Cobras sound much better, but on my first, short, test run, there are issues. First, the throttle response is slow off idle. Second, low end torque does not feel as good as before.

For the record I emailed Cobra and Nightrider (seller of the Vieds system) about this issue, but just did tonight, so of course no response yet.

Do you guys think the ecm will "learn" and compensate or will I end up getting the 1 3/4" baffles, which I was not even aware of before.

For anyone that uses Vieds, is there a tip on setting them for this exhaust setup? I did a lot of reading before buying but did not see anyone complaining of a loss of torque.

Thanks, any info appreciated.

Ok since I got zero response I can assume its bad timing or no one knows. So to continue throwing money at it I ordered a set of TTIs 158 to see. Will have to remove the baffle and install through the baffle since I do not want a hole in my new mufflers.

Will post up results

1) Open mufflers kill low end torque.
2) nothing beats a real tune with a quality tuning device.

Yea I get that completely just had not read that was the case with these. Guess i did not realize they were as open as they are. And I agree on the tuning but the Vieds were in the budget and have worked well so far. At least on my modified stockers.

Someday a real tuner might be in the cards but honestly the CA restrictions pretty much neuter even those. Will have to figure a way around those before I can buy a decent tuner. I did so on my diesel truck just have to figure that part out. According to what I have read on the CARB version of the FP3 it does little more than the factory stage one tune. Even the CA model.

Just my opinion but a FP3 is not what I’d consider a quality tuner. TTS and PowerVision in that order. I realize your California limitations.

2016 roadster- PV tuner, clean air intake. Had screaming eagle slip ons, went to the Cobras. Noticed improved performance low and high.

Someday a PV. Can the PV tuner be used on more than one bike or different models?

Ok maybe someday. I do hope in a year to buy a touring model and would hate to not be able to use it. On another note, I decided the Cobras were too loud for me, so did the Amazon return request, and they are on their way. On my second test run, the bike ran a little better, but I have a hill about 1/2 mile long on my home road, that twists and turns, and the droning noise about drove me nuts. I do not need that.

Sad because I have long admired the Cobra RPT for its looks, and the sound of them on youtube, but they are much louder in person than I expected. Maybe the 1 3/4" insert would be better, but I didn't know of it till I had these.

Live and learn I spose.
