I have an 03 lowrider wit ha stage 1 kit. I have the football air filter set up and was wondering if I wanted to change to a new style what it would involve.
Would I need to buy a new filter? new hardware for connecting? and are there benifits to different types.
If you already have stage 1 are you just looking for a different cover for the air filter??
I took off the football and used an Evolution style round cover, just used a $4 gasket from HD to give it the perfect fit, I think it probably would have fit without the gasket though. There are a lot of different styles of covers out there that will fit and you don't have to change any other parts.
Otherwise you can go with S&S or one of the hyperchargers, etc..then you have to change the whole assembly.
They are not difficult to install, and you probably will have to remap. To be honest though, there is no need to go to a higher flow filter if you still have stock heads, throttle body, etc. The bike will only use so much air without more modifications and the SE or Big Sucker 1 provide more than enough air for an otherwise stock bike.
But in some people's opinion the Hyperchargers and Induction air filters look cooler so I guess that is one reason to install them.
