I recently switched from a Bassani two into 1 to a Khrome works 2 into 2. I noticed that i had some burn marks so I decided to put some exhaust wrap on the front header to help manage the heat. Well It seems that where the header goes around the lower part of the case there is VERY little room. I'm sure its touching the case in places. My question is.... Is this normal? My thought process is because of the increased width because of the exhaust wrap it makes the header touch. Is this a big issue? Any feedback is appreciated
I don't know if it is supposed to fit like that or if you somehow got the wrong part, but exhaust pipe running close to the engine is not really a problem I think.
Just a word of caution, that exhaust wrap will permanently damage the finish of the pipe, increase risk of rust, and the added heat will make the pipe brittle to the point where it might stress crack.
Your bike and your choice of course, but it would be a shame to ruin a nice set of pipes I think.
SM is right about the potential effects of wrapping the pipe. What do you mean 'burn marks'? The front header had scorch marks on it but not the rear header? If your header has burn marks I would worry about your tune before wrapping the pipe. Treat the cause not the symptom.
