Has anyone read American Rider Magazine tech article by Joe Minton. He recommends not switching out the air filter to a K&N or ScreaminEagle type element.Dyno testing has proven, that you loose power in the midrange,( 2000-3500 rpm)he says the stock airbox works best. What do you guys think?. This goes against everything I've learned abouta Harley motor.
I have the SE AC on my 07 Fatboy. Dyno at 1 k with SERT. Recently took off the ( football A/C cover ) so now the AC is all exposed with just a center cover cap--- > IT MADE more power exposed, and I got better MPG. The post AC football removal was not dyno run, but I found more air is good!- I did not have a lack of power 2K RPM to WOT in 6th , it like hang on and go! I would have to say that if the K&N flows more CFM, then go for it.
Looking for a K&N actually to repalce the SE filter I have now.
Read something to the effect as well. I think it has to do with a combination of things, mainly the map sensor and restrictive filter possibly giving optimum power at that rpm. If that's the case my solution would be a tmax with auto tune and go with the better breather. With a correct setup it should develop more hp with a less restrictive breather at most rpms. Ron
