Is there an easy way to identify whether a TC88 has had the big-bore kit installed? Are there any external differences in the cylinders, or do I need to find someone with a borescope so I can look at the pistons (they'd be different from stock, right?)
I'm having to add lots of cranking fuel and warmup enrichment to get the engine to start when cold, and after messing with the VE tables in the appropriate map, I'm around 96% at idle, and have a 15.2:1 AFR measured with a sniffer up the pipe. Just wondering if maybe the PO had the big-bore kit installed with the SE A/C, mufflers, and race tuner, causing me to have to change the map so much.
This may work, although not definite. Pull the tab on a pushrod and see if it is adjustable. Harley's come with fixed pushrods. If just a big bore kit was put in, the stock pushrods could have been reinstalled. But, most usually change the cams when they go with the big bore kit.
Like I said, this is not a positive indicator, but is may give you and idea if the motor has been modified and it only takes about 30 seconds.
