Recently installed 95" and s&s 510 cams on tc88. Off bottom seems strong but if I pin it at 60 mph seems flat. Have thunderheader & st. II chip on this 04 Road King
Sounds like you need to get her on a dyno and see what your A/F looks like as well as your timing/advance. I also have the 510G cams and my motor really screams, but I also have the gear down primary kit and pressure plate. This cam grind likes 3,000 RPM plus! How does she act if you drop a gear and punch it? If she really takes off then it's a combination of you cruising in too low of a gear, and being way off on the timing........These cams are AWESOME, so I seriously doubt the cam is to blame, unless the wrench that isntalled them got the timing off.......[&o]
I'm assuming you're injected, hence the Stage II Chip. If you are able to swing the $$$$, invest in either a Power Commander or SERT with a Dyno tune, and you should be good! I've done just about everything except the bigger slugs and head work, and I'm really happy, but then again, this cam grind likes to rev......good for me, since I want to keep her wound up a little more, and the gear down kit is great!!! (Twins are not desinged to be lugged, and it does cause premature wear, as the rod bearings get pounded up)
You dont say,but if you have stock heads and running a Thundeheader you are PROBABLY running out of air.AKA volumetric efficentcy[SP].Your exhaust system has virtually no backpressure so the air is running thru CC too fast.Couple this with stock heads which aren't flowing enough air in CC to begin with and you see the dilemma.... nice to have cams now to let it in,but we have to get it in and keep it there for proper combustion....which is why the saying how fast can you afford to go?This is not a timing issue as that pertains to ALL rpm ranges almost all the time. . Thunderheaders are almost always a no-no on EFI bikes, good luck,Bob...I would be thinking new exhaust,or old exhaust with SE or Hooker mufflers and headwork when you can afford it to maximize the cams
I have had my 95 cubic road glide first harley about 3 weeks. it has thunder head exhust powercomander K@n ,42 thrittle body ported and the heads worked over ,It,s fast starts and idles goodbut at 2@ 3 K it would have a flat spot .I learned from the forums, I was luging it and cured my proublem . I havent put this bike on a dino yet but I think it's more then a 95 cubic.
