There was a recall on a relay switch or module or something like that that I had to get repaired even though it never happened on my bike. The relay was mounted to close to the oil tank and when your bike warms up (hot) the relay kicks off. When you wait a few minutes it cools and will start again. I've seen this on many bikes. Check w/your dealer about this

Good Luck

No spark, what I would do next is take the coil cover off, get a test light, when the bike dies, see if you have constant power while cranking at the + side and a constant flicker of light at the neg side. If so, try the coil, if you lose the flicker at the neg, you may be looking at a module, crank sensor or so. But if you lose power at the + side of the coil, you could be looking at ignition swich, kill switch problem or more. Hope this helps, I would hate for you to start buying and swaping out parts randomly. I would report my findings to the dealer and let them start swaping out parts!

anybody got pricing info on a GULLWING! or what ever they call them things. i drove 5 hours round trip to pick up a coil and an ignition module. when i got home, i looked all over the bike to replace the module and couldnt find it...so one of my employees told me his nephew just went to work for a harley dealership and gave me his number. just to bo back a little, when i picked up the part from the dealer, i said please......please very kindly would you double check the part number to make sure this fit a 97 glide police with fuel injection. of course he said why yes it does. but since i cant find this thing, i call this guys nephew. first i asked him to verify the part number, he did then i ask him to tell me where this part is located. he said i think.......so i very kindly i said can you look it up in a manual and make sure, since i already look under the side covers, seat, tail lite, turn signal ect ect, and i couldnt find a place for no stikning module. so he went to the service dept. and proceded to ask. then it got ugly, he said hey, fuel injected bikes have no module its in the ecm. he said i can get u one of them things. i said not just yet, because i figured if a sensor was messing up the ecm's day, it would do the same thing to the new ecm. now i had to call the dealership that sold me this module, i admitted that i asked for a part not knowing that it did come on my bike, but since i asked them to please....please double check the numbers and stuff yada yada yada could i return this part, i also mention that i did take it out of the package. they kindly said NO! so after some debate with the parts manager, the store manager and the frecking owner, we came to an agreement, they would give me my money back, if i promised not to carry a plastic bag full of muratic acid, and spray it on all the bikes in the show room. now those who say diplomacy doesnt work.....i say not so fast my friend! back to the problem i get to take it back to my local dealership tomorrow where they swear they have the part to cure all my woes! so for all my friends at vtt, keep you eye on CNN and if you ther of a little crazy man shooting up a harley dealership......you may consider sending donations for my defense fund! hae a nice night and ill keep those who give a ****. posted!! he he he!

Did you REALLY say that?

What was the part that they told you would "fix all your woes?" Is this the same dealership that tried to fix them in th first place?

This is a real pain in the azz for you, I hope tomorrow does solve all your problems...

the part i got was from a different dealership. but its odd that 5 of 6 dealers said they would have to order that part this particular dealership said yes we have it in stock. the dealer that was working on the bike would find a wire or a plug he didnt like and change it meanwhile everytime i would leave, soon after id be waiting on the side of the road......dead! so thats when i bought the spark tester so the next time it quit, i would know if was getting spark. then wen it died, and it had no spark on most electronic ignitions the module is usually suspect. so i decided that i would change the coil and the module on my own, that way i could rule that problem out in my own mind. the good new is that today they changed the cam positioning sensor and so far i got about an hour of riding today before the monsoon came, and so far so good.

the thng that bothers me so much over this deal, is that they were all willing to sell me a part that doesnt exsist on my bike. im a little disappointed that either these parts people dont have very good training, or dont give a crap, or worse they're willing to take your money. and most places wont refund money on electrical parts especially when the package is been opened. dont get me wrong, if i had bought the part and it did belong on my bike, but it turned out that the part on my bike wasnt defective...thats my bust and i wouldnt even expect them to take it back. heck when i go back on monday to return this item id even trade it for some bling bling stuff, that way they dont have to give me back cash! heck im a resonable person........till they **** me off!!

good news today rode about 4 hours with now problems, stopped by the hd shop today got a chance to look in thier parts manual.
no wonder they sold me the wrong stuff the manual is extremly vague. it has a lousy description on the parts. wow what a bummer for the parts guy.

Glad you're smarter than the manual! I'm sure it will take a few rides before you totally trust the bike again...so here's to putting miles on your ride so that you can trust it again!
