i just installed screamin egale slip ons on my 05 softail delux and they dont sound much louder than stock. my 04 sporster with the slip-ons were much louder. Can I modify the exhaust without taking out the baffles? [IMG][/IMG]
Firstthing I will ask is there two bolt's that hold the baffle's in place, if there is I would slide them out to do the mod's, if not you can look inside tne baffle and you will see a piece bent down that almost cover's the opening of the pipe, they do this to channel about 75% of the exhaust through the baffle, you can take a piece of pipe or a crowbar and pry that gap open about 1/8th or so to get more sound, don't go much more than that or you will loose back pressure and kill the torque, there are some other option's that you can do if you can get the baffle's out that will give you that sound your looking for, that's what I did, pulled mine and cut the center out leaving two piece's about 2" long, welded them together and replaced them back in the muffler and installed a lollipop in the center end of the baffle, run's great and sound's great. You can go to http://nightrider.com and it will show you how to do the lollipop trick. I hope this help's, if I confused you you can contact me with a private nessage and I will explain it to you better.
I noticed a lot of people talking abought SEII's I got my SE from the harley catalog, so what did I get SEI or II ? They only offerred one model in the catalog
Did you get them form the regular Harley catalogue or the Screamin' Eagle catalogue? If they're Screamin' Eagle II, they will be embossed with that on the mufflers themselves. If they're SE 1s, they will simply say "Screamin' Eagle" on the mufflers. From what I understand the 2s are louder and flow better.
[sm=oopssign.gif], sorry man but I can't help you there, a freind of mine bought a set for his wife's sporty and he said they weren't any louder than the stock pipe's so I told him to make sure he had the SEIIs and he had the 1s like you,but the dealer took them back and traded for the SEIIs, I hope you can also but if your not happy I'd put something else on.
