I'm looking at adding the above SE slipons (part # 80491-08, slashdown) to the new bike (along with the stg 1 a/c and maybe SERT) when it arrives and would like any opinions about them. I want a more aggressive sound than stock but not overly loud at cruise.
Should I bother with these? Anybody using them like or not like?
My dealer is 3 hours away so I can't spend a lot of time there listening to bikes so your opinions are appreciated.
I have a set on a 07' FLHX, I like them, not as loud as other mufflers but sound good at idle, mellow at cruise and come alive on full throttle above 3000rpm. I recommend them.
Thanks for the replies. The video clips were helpful, fer shure. I think I'll start with these just to keep it simple and see how it goes after a few miles.
I have run those same mufflers on an '06 and now an '08 Ultra. They are just a bit louder than stock with a deeper tone. They perform well and dynoed out better by 5 ft-lbs of torque at 2800 RPMthan the older two piece street performance mufflers (64985-07) on my current 103" Stage II setup. The two piece mufflers had too much back pressure. I used a Radio Shack DB meter to measure the loudness of the one piece mufflers you are looking at and got a reading of 93 Db at 2000 RPM measure at about 3' and at 45 degrees up form the rear of the pipes. Unfortunately I didn't have the meter to measure what the stock mufflers put out for comparison.
You will need a SERT or the equivalent. The mufflers and A/C will make the engine more lean then it already is. There a many many threads on the subject so do a search find the one that fits your needs and still retain the warranty.
I installed those slip on's with VH duals, fuel pak and hi-flow air. I rode the first time yesterday and was impressed with the performance and also the sound. When I hit it the sound was much louder than the stock mufflers but not too loud. It was just what I was looking for. The duals added to the sound.
I just got an '08 Streetglide with the SE Street Performance slip-ons, Stage I air cleaner, and SERT. The slip-ons sound really good, giving it a deep rumble. Louder than stock, but not as much as most aftermarkets. FXSTChewey put it pretty well about them coming alive under full throttle. I think you would like them.
