Default Muffler Clamps

I am installing a set of V&H Ovals. They came with new clamps but I am using a new set of the H-D ones. My service manual gives a torque setting of 45/60 ft/lbs but the sheet that came with the mufflers is saying 12 ft/lbs. That is quite a difference.

Could V&H be giving the low setting for their clamps?

Should I just use the 45 ft/lbs from the manual?

Rineharts come with similar torque specs; I used the HD clamps with HD's torque values like Dawg suggested.

The V&H clamps are different than the HD ones in order to fit V&H TDs. (shields wrap further around on V&H TDs and hug the pipe tighter so there's no room for HD clamps) I'm thinking you are putting the Ovals on stock HD headpipes (and not V&H TDs) so the HD clamps will work. They have a different torque spec.

Actually I do have V&H TD. The H-D clamp went on the right side OK but on the left I had to loosen the heat shield to get it on.

Thanks, I will use the H-D's and their specs.

I have to do the same thing with my V&H TD's. Come to think of it, didn't I buy them from you?

The bolt in the HD clamp is larger than the V&H which is why a higher torque is specified.

You know, I think you did. I ended up buying another set an putting them on.

Some day I will have the RK just like I want it. Well, maybe not
