Default 95” vs. 96”

Has anyone had the opportunity to ride an 88” with the big bore (to 95”) and also ride a new 96”? I’m curious how they compare. I have a RK with a Stage II Big Bore, Reinhart true-duals and the SE air intake. A friend said that he thinks a newer RK with the 96” and similar intake/exhaust will be quicker than my bike. I really don’t care which bike is quicker but I’m curious if someone had ridden bikes with both motors. What are you thoughts on both motors? Are they similar?

The 95" usually have more torque and horsepower than a stock 96" due to the fact that 95" have better compression and normally upgraded cams. Even with stock cams the 95" will perform better.
96" have the same horsepower output as a 88" just a bit more torque.

I have ridden both.My bike is a 2001 with a 95cu in,and while I was having some work done on it I rented a hertiage softail, that was a 2007 with a 96,and a 6 speed. The 95 is a much faster engine esp in midrange power. Also there was alot of overhead racket in the 96,I don't know what the deal is with that, and a brand new bike might not even do that.I was impressed with the fuel injection, and it was fast through the lower gears.I'll take a 95 anyday though.

Had a buddy with a 96" dyna. It felt like it had about the same power as my stage I 88". It felt like it had a little more power down low and a little less up high. All in all, about the same. I have no doubt that taking an 88" to 95" will make it substantially faster than a 96". I think the big difference is going to be in the CR.

I agree, the 95 performs really well, but I did notice that when on the freeway, my ol'lady's 07 dyna was happier in 6th gear at lower speeds than my 06 dyna with a 95 kit and andrews 37s. It also depends on how hard you flog it, a friend of mine had a stage 1 96" lowrider, and I had trouble keeping up with him from the stoplight, but He was much quicker on the shift, and harder on the clutch than I was. Most of the time, 96" bikes couldnt touch me.

i have an 07 deuce with the 96 and my woman has an 03 deuce with a stage 2 95. after riding both, i think that mine is faster at lower rpm, but once i hit the mid and upper range, hers will walk all over mine.
