Default Cam Help

Looking for someone that may know about a Crane .619 cam. I have got this on my bike and I was told that it is not a good match with fuel injection. I got a sputter around 2600-2950rpm and my motor has more shake at idle than most. Not a lot but it is noticeable. Something that couldn't be removed while tuning. Heres a list of my equip to help;
95" 10.5:1
Ported and Polished heads .194"int. .160"exh.
50mm throttle body
Thunderheader 2-1
Crane Cam .619" lift .246/.254 dur @.053

Hope anyone can help.

Default RE: Cam Help

Do you have a dyno chart you can post? This is a very high lift cam on a 95" build, and purely my opinion, is what is contributing to this. I have a SE-251 cam in my build which is .579 244/250 dur @53 and my engine really behaves like a "hot-rod", doesn't mellow out until over 3000 RPM. I have worked with timing in the lower RPM ranges to smooth things out though you'll never get the smoothness of a stock with a cam like you have.

I agree.

I haven't checked the "intake closing" but cams much further than 40 deg. ABDC are hot rod cams. Not gonna idle real good. A price to pay.

I will scan and post my dyno chart. Bike really runs like a bat outta hell. Just looking to improve those 2 areas. BTW I had my pistons notched for clearance to fit this cam.

Although the Crane cam isn't my favorite cam choice I do use .630 lift cams in some 95' builds I do, saying that I have to say I don't have problems with idle or shaking like your explaining, I believe it's in your tune. There is a good way to get some low end power back in your build by bending the baffle inside the TH to slow down the gasses at 2000 to 2500 rpms. The TH has a tendency to over scavenge in this area when using a cam with any overlap, bending the baffle will gain you at least 20 ft lbs of tq in that area. Find a dyno operator who knows how to tune a TH.
