Default SuperTrapp 2:1 problem

I recently installed the above exhaust on my 2001 SERG. After less that 500 miles, the transmission mount hose clamp broke. I talked to tech support at Supertrapp and they sent me a "T bolt" clamp which looks quite a bit stronger. HOWEVER, the clamping mechanism is too large to fit in the tight space between the mount and the transmission. I have spent over an hour trying to get this clamp into this tight space (can't put the T bolt on the outside surface because the chromeheat shieldfits over this area. Any help greatly appreciated!!! BTW- the pipe looks great, sounds great and makes more power than my Vance & Hines slip-ons.

I have had several of the tranny hose clamps break over the last 30,000 miles or so. I tried to use the t-bolt clamp they sent me but the only way to mount it is remove the tranny mount bracket and that intails pulling the oil spout etc. What I finally found that works is get a hose clamp that is used for silicon hoses available at trucking repair shops ie diesel shops. It has a an extra band on the inside so as not to cut the hose. I found the reason the orignals break is they end up making a sharp bend on the tranny mount bracket and it causes the strap to break. The silicon hose style clamp has extra protection where the tranny mount bracket is and mine has not failed since going this route. I think if you had a piece of tin you could also make a shim to help smooth out the sharp bend at the bracket and slide the piece of tin between the hose clamp and the bracket.

Mtclassic- Thanks so much for the info! I really appreciate your time and input. I will do exactly as you recommend and get a silicone hose clamp from a truck shop.

I found that the reason these clamps break is that the installer tightens the clamp. The rider starts and rides the bike, which heats the pipe, which expands the metal, which weakens the clamp, which soon breaks. I found that the solution was to use two clamps, only snugged, and tightened after the exhaust system is hot and the metal has expanded.I never broke a clamp again, and the clamps stay tight.

I put 10,000 miles on mine and didn't break a single clamp, just snugged it as suggested. It doesn't have to be hogged down.

Found the clamp at a truck shop- 2 bucks and change. I will snug it down and try not to overtighten. Thanks again for the timely input!
