Just got a used thunderheader 2 into 1 for my road king. The stock exhaust had the clamp that mounted to the trans side cover. Looks on the new exhaust there is a clamp with a bolt that should mount to something do i need another bracket or how does it mount in the trans area. Pics would be great also. Thanks for the help.
Sorry no pics but there's a bracket under the trans that mounts that receives the bolt on the exaust clamp that is attached with the 4 or 5 Allen bolts. I thought that was the stock mount but if you don't have it I guess it's not. It's been 8 yrs since I installed and can't remember.Btw after that long the pipe is still in great shape, good luck
yes, you need the tranny mount for the pipe. It should of come with the pipe?? The mounting hardware comes in a small seperate box and is usually at bottom of the box. That is if you bought it new..;-) If you bought it used go to their website and order up the bracket.
Thanks got it used tried going straight to thunderheader but they wont sell to public. Most of the dealers local on their site are out of business. Called American Classic Motors who sells thunderheaders on e bay and they told me they just sell complete systems. Anyone have a bracket laying around?
I would check with local indy and see if they have one. Being on east coast its probably going to be a hard find. I could check my indy, if nothing else I know he can order it. THs are everywhere in my area and Rich Products is pretty close. Let me know, if nothing else I can get you the number to my indy.
If you cannot find the original bracket for the system, find yourself a good Indy. Go talk to him, maybe bring the pipe with you and see if he can get a generic bracket that he can somehow fit to the system. J/P, D/K, carry all different kinds of clamps/brackets and one will likely be close to what you need, a few choice bends, bolt it up somewhere, and on your way down the road.
The Indy will know right away what you want and will likely take on the job. Only downside is now all the money you saved buying used is out the window to make it work. I bought a propipe used recently and had to do the exact same thing as it did not come with the bracket, and V/H doesn't have or make any more of those brackets.
