Default 103 Screamin eagle heads

I have an 07 Street Glide and just purchased a Stage II 103 kit with the 255 cams. Should I use the 96' stock heads or purchase the 103' screamin eagle heads?

You could save yourself money and port the stock heads. I think you would end up with a much nicer final product with ported heads vs the SE heads and have some extra money in your pocket. Are you dead set on that cam?? there are others out there that will provide much better overall power across the board. That cam will provide good tq in the low rpm range but it will sign off very quickly.

What kind of performance do you want? There are HDF'ers who haveinstalled what you have and been very happy with that set-up.

However, it doesn't make much performance/economic sense toask if you should buy SE heads without specifying which ones--there are several. Also, the 255 cams don't ususally work as well as other SE and aftermarket cams with better flowing and higher compression engine set-ups.

IMO, the value of 103 builds is farbetter with Head-Quarters, GMR, etc. packages--the cylinders are precision machined (instead of HD mass produced cylinders--that are frequently not cylindrical) and perfectly fitted pistons (instead of off-the-shelf, mass-produced HD pistons), with preciselymachined heads compatible with the specific build, rather than mass-produced HD SE heads, using cams compatible with the buid, etc.

And those aftermarket packages aren't "race/hot-rod" engines--they are dependable engines (using better components than the HD stuff) delivering excellent fuel economy.

You would be wise to not buy any SE heads until you decide how much performance you want, then talk to Doug at Head-Quarters, Steve (HDWRENCH) of GMR, and guys knowledgeable about SE products that work well together. It's very easy to buy parts that seem to be highly reputable, but don't necessarily work well together.

I have the same build as you have and I am very happy with performance. Will juice it up further once warranty is up and have another one in the stable.

We just supplied a customer with a set of heads for his 103 build. He started off with with a set of very mild ported stock heads and a woods 6 cam. It made decent power. BUT the owner wanted more, as the heads where not able to offer enough power. His build is very basic and offers up great power across the board. That kit is located in AZ. The heat down where he is at is flat out killer hot and the pump gas is 91 at best. Keep all of this in mind when looking at kits. We tend to look at velocity in the ehad vs a high cfm number. The customer has stated several times on how fast the bike revs, pulls very hard across the entire rpm band. Your SE kit will not make these numbers and you will be out more money from pocket.

So guys install that kit, and they are happy for a short time, then they want more. You may be SUPER happy with the stock heads and the 255 cam and never touch it again.[sm=badbadbad.gif] WARNING:::: once you are bitten by the performance bug you will never be the same::: LOL

Good luck with the upgrade, the new found power will be make you smile!!![sm=massbounce.gif]
