SE ACR heads or 103+ heads which set should I use?
Hi,
I have managed to aquire two sets of New SE heads. One is the ACR (automatic compression release) and the other set is the 103+ heads set up for manual compression release.
I am prepairing a 113 build, so far it is all screamin eagle, and the list of parts thus far is:
Bigger bore cylinders, 4.060 16550-04
High compression 10.5 to 1 pistons 22571-07A
58 mm SE throttle body kit 27639-07
SE heavy breather 29098-09
SE 251 Cams
Regular HD gaskets
perfect fit pushrods for the acr heads. If the 103+ are better then I will change pushrods.
I already have a power commander installed and se slip ons.
BTW this is all on a 2008 Fatbob.
Those pistons are designed to work with the ACR heads , the pistons for the 103+ heads are PN#22516-04 Those are for 10.5 comp in a 113". That should make choosing easier, ACR heads no piston or pushrod change 103+ heads you have to get new pistons and pushrods! And be prepared for the guys to tell you to junk all SE parts for aftermarket items. Your choice ,your money, your bike! Have fun and good luck!!!!!
Thanks for that, I bought the pistons for the ACR heads and then found the 103+ heads at a deal I could not refuse, or perhaps I should say could have refused but didn't because I'm a junky. I forgot to mention that I will change pistons as well If the 103+ heads are the better choice.
Right now it's about finding a way for the SE parts I have to come together in the best possible way. I don't know much about flow rate and port setup with 4-stroke heads and want to start with the heads that are the best strait off the shelf. I got the ACR's first and then had a strange haunting feeling that they might be no better than stock but with compression releases installed.
Another question would be, can I make the screamin eagle heads equivalent to the better aftermarket heads by sending them away to someone and have them "done"?
Oh yes, one more question. This Bob comes with the 2 into 1 into 2 exhaust thing. Does that perform like a 2 into 1 or is that somehow changed by the fact that it splits back into two again?
Information and opinions are good.
Nothing makes me more receptive then having had money and now just having lots of parts instead. Of course NOW I realize I don't know as much as I thought I did.

I'm sure they could be improved.
I had my stock heads done at RE Engineering in San Jose.
Ported/polished,larger valves,new springs,milled,flowed,compression release's added.new guides and seals.

As close as you are to Ventura call Dave Mackie and ask him his opinion on your choices he is a pretty nice guy and has a lot of knowledge about heads!
No just got it back on the road yesterday, rode 50 miles yesterday, another 40 today and it definitely needs to be fine tuned but even with the crappy 08 gearing it wants to flip that needle, hard to keep her under the porch. So far I am not repeat not going to jump off the nearest bridge for going with all SE parts, but for all you numbers junkies out there when I get the dyno tune done I will let you know what the end results are and no bs!
Dave Mackie is a good guy. I've spoke with him a few times with questions, he won't bs ya, and he takes time to fully answer any question you have. His stuff works very well, I would have run his 590 cams but he hasn't made them for 06 & up dynas yet.
