Default Cams for 07 FLHTCU

I have not sat down with the builder for a final plan but I want to be ready, so I come to all of you for information and advise.

My 96" 07 Ultra has a V&H Pro Pipe (I love it,) Ness Big Sucker, and PC III. I normaly run in the 2000 to 3000 RPM range and thats where I want my "pull." I don't mind twisting up to pass from time to time.

I'm pulling the PC III and going to a Daytona TwinTec system.

I'm planning for a local builder to work the heads,throttle body (to 50mm) and put in cams. Planned CR should be<10.1. In the long run I may go up to 103."
CAMS:My builder seams to be leaning towards the S&S 585 or 570. I think I want to stay with the chain drive and have been looking at the Andrews 54. The 585 sounds like it will really run in the top end, and I would like that, but what about thepull down low? Do the cams need to match his top end work? The

Any input or ideas are welcome

Thanks

The 585 and 570 is NOT going to do you Justus where you run...they are both too much cam for your target power.
The V&H pro pipe for the`07 year is a very restrictive pipe...it's nothing like the older 'HS' series but since you want the power at 3000 rpm this won't be an issue.
Installing a larger throttle body will move your power up the rpm band and lose power on low end because the intake velocity will drop, so the 50mm is a bad idea and a waist of your money.
If your going toa 103' the 54 cam is a good choice, the 37 will be a good choice too.If your staying with the stock bore the 26 cam will rock for your target power band.
Be careful with the heads...if the porter is staying with the stock valves there will be no problem but if larger valves are being used like a 1.9/1.62 the smaller bore cylinders will shroud the valves and you'll lose the flow (again a waist of your money) If you go to a 103' you would benefit from the larger valves.
Keep in mind the V&H ProPipe BR series will restrict your power past4000 rpm
Good luck

Interesting post on the valve shrouding issue, I always assumed that valve shrouding was not an issue at the angle the valves came into the combustion chamber, I remember the old BigBlock chevys with the notch at the top of the cylinder to help unshroud the valves.

You'll be happy with the Andrews 37H
Here's my dyno with it. 103" with mild port work:

I'm not sure why that didn't work? So I'll try to post it again:

Bob
with the over size valves the piston should be notched for valve clearance with the 37 and the 54 cam, if you have the small bore (stock) the notch in the piston would be on the edge of the piston and might even interfere with the ring land, if the same cams are used with stock valves and stock bore there is no problem. My other point on the shrouding is if the valve came to the edge of the piston how far is it away from the cylinder wall.....the bigger bore will give the back side of the valve much more room to breath

Wow, that brings back memories. We did a 427 for a drag boat back in the mid-1970's where we offset bored the block, moved the bore .015" toward the intake valve and used offset dowel pins for the cylinder heads to move the intake valve more towards being over the cylinder. That S-O-B woudl scoot down the river.

Sorry for getting off topic.

Your right....there is nothing out there better in the 1500~3000 rpm range, but you have to remember thay fall on their face at 4200 rpm.

Default Cams for 07 FLSTF

I had a Redshift 575 cam out in my 07 fatboy lost my lower end range of riding power and wonder if the SE 255 cam would be better than a stock grind and give me roll on pull for ridng city streets 25-45 mph and be better for windy rural roads.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
It almost feels as if a stock grind worked better than the mid and high that I have now for teh riding group I ride with-
&nbsp\\;
other cams ???? than a Se 255 ?
