Default Oil Pump Alignment in TC88, How Critical is it?

Hey guys,&nbsp\\; I'm in the middle of doing a cam swap on my 02 RKC and I'm just about ready to button things up.&nbsp\\; BUT, I've managed to do everything
so far without the need of the "SPECIAL" tools that harley recommends.&nbsp\\; I've been following some guidelines online at the harleyhog website and
i've noticed that he shows how to align the oil pump.&nbsp\\; Now since I dont have the special tools that he uses to align the pump, what should I do?
Is the pump alignment that critical?

I used a couple of 1/4"-20 flat head socket-head screws to align mine. I chucked them lightly in a cordless drill and spun them to make sure the taper on the heads was true. They work on the same principle as the Evo lifter block alignment tool other than the angle of the taper on the screws is a little more severe than the specialty tool and a lot less expensive.

For your year bike the alignment is very critical if you want the pump to work at optimum....the new bikes the flywheels don't stay true so who cares about pump alingment...lol....just kidding

You can align the oil pump without special tools, what you need to do is put the bike in 5th gear and roll the rear tire over while gently alternately snugging the oil pump bolts a little at a time&nbsp\\; until tight, it will roll the pump over an align itself,&nbsp\\; Todd

I disagree with you on that method...the alignment pins don't align the pump to the shaft it aligns the pump ports to the cam plate ports for optimum performance, doing it your way does nothing for the pump or the build
