I didn't think mine was shakin too bad, but it sure has a lot more action than my brothers Softail. I've been thinking about crankwork/Timken for a while now wondering if I would need it for a mild 9.5:1 build. I guess I know the answer, I can't see taking it down for a topend and leaving a questionable crank in there.

If your bike is under warranty you will win law suit w/o lawyer! The only thing you need is document from some repair shop about bad condition of your engine. Harley and Davidson both will call you and ask you to bring your bike to a dealer for engine replacement as soon as they receive court papers.
Good luck.
Call customer service first and warn them about lawsuit and then letters to all magazines.

A Softail "B" motor is going to be smoother. I would leave that decision for when I removed the cam plate, inspected the oil pump, and checked the pinion shaft run out. If I found these issues to be good, I would not take the bottom end down unless I was planning on exceeding 120 T&H.

my 2010 road glide crank has .006 after 1000 miles.... mechanic has seen 3 out of 4 cranks on 07 and newer more then .005 out and seen 2 cranks cause major damage, one bike had 7000 miles and the other had 18k

he did replace a crank in a 07 dyna that harley had already replaced 2 times....

im going with s&s crank adn timken setup and be done with it.... if i wait for harley, it might not go out while under warranty OR whos to say they use a good crank again?

sigh... money money money

The cranks are a crapshoot. Far more of them still running, even with HP builds than those that have come apart. That being said, I would not do any build above 107" without going into the bottom end. Up to that point, you can build 'em, ride it and watch for any tell tale signs of issues such as vibration, excess oil through breathers, oil pressure fluctuation and noise from the cam chest. Owners do not have an endless stream of money so I build 'em and tell the owners to hope for the best, that most likely they will not have issues. There is always that chance that a crank will shift, but there are thousands of modded motors out there that have not had issues with crank shift.
