Default harley engine differences

&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;JUST JOINED HERE A COUPLE DAYS AGO.I want to find out something before i buy the wrong thing.I am warned by a few -not to buy a harley d, engine before 1999.They say..harley didn't really get the engine straitened out till 2000.Can anyone enlighten me on this assumption???????i would be&nbsp\\;be very grateful. bob s&nbsp\\;

The Evo motors are a very reliable motor if taken care of. The first year of the Twin Cam (1999) is not a good motor, they had some issues with the cam chain and the top end that were straightened out&nbsp\\;in 2000. Dynas and the baggers were the only ones in '99 that had a TC 88 motor, the softails still had the Evo's in '99 so they are ok.

Sick 1200,,,,,,,,,,,so evo is 1200 valves overhead????

I believe late 99 had softails with the TC motor that also had cam bearing issues. I think they were TC A. You can tell somehow by your VIN, but not sure exactly how.

I visited that link. I gather that what they mean when they say Timken bearing is tapered roller bearing. I have never heard of anything called a Centrical or Centrically bearing...
