I have searched the threads on here and found some answers, opinions, what have you, But couldnt find an answer to this.... The other day at the dealership, I asked them to take a look at my bike as the ticking/tapping sound is VERY annoying. They pulled a pushrod out and it was worn a little about halfway up near the top. The mechanic said that it was hitting the hole as it goes through the head. That is my tapping sound. he recommended putting tapered rods in it. He said that would cure the sound. I do have a big bore kit with cams. Has anyone encountered this?
yep....tapered will sure help....when installing them check the rocker arms on the shaft...push em back and forth and see how much play is in them....tight side of spec is .004...if you have abuncha side to side play, there's some tap as well...shim the shafts on the pushrod side with some shovelhead shaft shims....you gotta do it when you replace the pushrods so's there'll be no load on em....b
