fuel pump swap
I have a 1998 FLHRCI fuel injected Road King. It is technically a basket case and I have NO tank. I would like to use sheet metal from a newer (2004 FLHRCI) bike. My question is relating to the fuel injection system and the fuel pump. I understand that I will need the later pump because the 1998 pump will not mount in the newer tank so if I get an '04 fuel pump mounted in the '04 tank will it work? Is everything else, pressure, fittings, lines, hoses etc. the same? Will this work, or can I make it work?

I don't know the dates for the breakpoints between the different EFI systems, but understand the MM had the fuel rail pressure regulator mounted outside the tank with a separate return line. The newer (newest?) Delphi system uses a regulator inside the tank which just jumps excess where it is and has only one line exiting the tank with the results. Just about anything is doable, but the easiest route would be to stick with the entire EFI system you plan on going to.
