Default O2 sensor disconect method???

I'm about to change pipes and the service manual says to disconect o2 sensors under seat and up front on the down tubes. My qustion is why can't you just disconect them from the headers, and them screw them back into the new headers? Seems it would be alot easier if you could get a wrench in there. Let me know! Thanks.

Because you don't want to twist those wires that much you could break them internally.

Why not just disconnect the wires at the connector that is about 6 inches from each of the O2 sensors? If there are any tie wraps between the sensor and the connector, cut them and then unscrew the sensors. You will not twist the wires if you make sure the short lead to the connector is clear before using a wrench on the sensors.
