Default exhaust question

If you were to buy a exhuast without the 02 mounts how much would it cost to modify them to get them o2 compatibable because i found a set of hooker fourbiddens and they are half off but they are for the 96" before 07....so i was just wondering if anyone has done this or knows how to do this?

Simple to do. Cut hole in pipes, weld in O2 bungs, send pipes out to be rechromed. Now if you plan on changing out air filter and adding a Power Commander III fuel management system, then you will have no need to add the O2 bungs.

O2 sensors provide closed loop operation during cruising. This is a good thing. Cars have had it for decades, but it's new to Harley. It's a simple system that works pretty well. I would not disable it unless you've made some pretty radical changes to the engine.

Adding sensor bungs into the pipes is usually pretty easy. Cut a hole and weld them in. BUT, take a close look at the bungs in your stock pipes, and compare them to those shown in a catalog like Summit Racing. Although I havn't really looked for them, they could be difficult to find. Pretty simple to make out of heavy wall tubing, though.

Be sure and double check the pipes that you are considering. 2007 was the first year for the 96" engine, and all of the 2007 engines use 02 sensors. Before 2007 the engines were 88".

I wouldn't think he'd even have to chrome 'em. The bungs go where the pipes are bare and out of sight, the chrome heat shields mount to make the visible sections of the 'bare' pipe look like they are chrome.
...but as Bluesssman says, you won't need bungs anyway if you're going to run a PC III on a newer bike with O2 sensors, 'cause I believe they get disabled as part of the PC install.

your local muffler shop will have the bungs, and will weld em in for around $20. placement is critical. but as said, if using pc3, no need to bother.
