I am looking to install a set of cams in my 01 88ci softail. Anyone have any suggestions? My Nighttrain is fuel injected and pretty much stock. I just want to get the best bang for my buck. Thanks
Performance, something to build on, etc...? What sorta riding do you do most of the time ~ solo, 2up, mountains, flatlands, aggressive, mellow.......????...
I get pretty aggressive. Usually all of my riding is on flatland. I just want something to start out with for more performance but a low price. I dont want to have to change anything else internal.
check your crank run out, get rid of those chain driven cams. and go gear drive, a woods tw6g cam. this will get you hoppin bro. a 510 lift, bolt in cam. cut stock pushrods , install s.e. adjustables and save your self removing tank and heads. you will love it, im sure a lot of members will agree. of course the cams performance will depend on your pipes ALOT. get bike remapped after cam and your laughing. should make about 85 hp 90 tq. good luck!!!!! ps. the reason to go gears is to get rid of that ticking time bomb in your cam chest , the chains and the tensioners. which have been detrimental to a lot of engines. gear drive, a little nosier. but a least you have peace of mind and timing will remain dead on, once its set. do your research, cam questions are like the infamous oil questions. you ask 10 guys which cam they like, you get 10 different answers. in the end its your choice. everbody has there favorites.

For the money better off getting your stock jugs bored to 95". This will give you a bigger bang for the buck than any cam swapout will on a stock 88" MM injected bike. Next step would then be a cam upgrade with some mild headwork done......

A cam change will always give more performance than a small displacement increase, especially with the extremely oddball EPA timing characteristics and the meager airflow of the Twin Cam 88.

Not true at all, other things have to come into play for cams to give a big boost, like compression, head performance, exhaust, intake etc. You can get a nice low to midrange powerboost with just a new set pistons installed into some bored jugs.
I installed the se203 cams in my 01 train but now I went ahead and done the big bore kit also. Should I bump up the cams a little or just stay with the 203s? Thanks
