Hello All,
I just had the dealer do a stage 3 , 103 build on my 2008 FLHX with 251 cams, stronger valve springs, Screaming Eagle 10:5.1 pistons, 103 cylinders and am having a problem finding information on the 251 cams. Anyone running the 251's and how do they like the cams ?
Thanks,
capt42a
I don't have the 251 cams but do have friends that have them and are pleased with them.Having said that there are cams out the better suited to what you need with your build.Check into Woods & Andrews as they have new cam profiles that take advantage of the 96 in.motors.
I am hung up and cant decide between the 251 or 255 cam.
I am planning a seII with 255 cam, stock heads cleaned up, HPI rebore TB to 51mm. Hopeing to extend the TQ\HP just a little futher to the right but have the grunt of the 255 where you need it for the crappy (IMO) 1-2 gear range.
The 251 will move the tq/hp more to the right and could get 95/100 over with a better TB but not sure of low end grunt from 2000 to 2700
I don't know how the se251's run yet but I am in the middle of an SE 113 build with all the works and have choosen the 251 cams. 260's seemed a bit high end and the 255's seemed a bit low. I won't know for two weeks yet how i like them. I hope they are all I am looking for. Fortunatly the cams are not that hard to change.
the 251 cam likes to be geared a little lower. ran them in a 95in with htcc cnc heads and 337 gearing. it loved that gearing. the 255 cam is a better cam for low end. set it up correctly and it will work well over 100/100. ask them to put a .030 head gasket and check the valve to piston clearence and that 103 will be golden no need to go to a larger t/b on that build or no need to go to a diffrent cam...set that motor up correctly with what you got and you will be amazed on the powere.
if more power is needed in the future have the heads re-worked by a professional and you will gain then also.

I ran the 251 in an '05 road king 103" with 10.7 compression...they worked fine in that setup...like george says, you might want to regear for these cams in a late model bike...or at least understand that they don't pull very well below 2700 rpm unless compression is very high
I disagree with a couple of posts here. I have the SE251 in a 07 FLHX 103" big bore and love these cams. I have used SE203 and SE211 personally and ridden friends bikes with Woods and Headquarters cams/builds. My build is SE cast FT pistons, Cometic head gasket, SE A/C, D&D Fatcat exhaust, stock heads and TB. These cams are just fine with the late model gearing. In fact, the gearing is almost perfect now with more torque and HP.
101TQ/98HP with a rough tune. Compression comes out around 10.4:1 with CCP around 200.
Check out my dyno sheet on the other forum along with a few others. Best budget build out there if you just use the cast pistons and don't do headwork or TB. Others have gotten a couple of more points in TQ/HP. I ran the stock valve springs but would change them eventually as you are pushing the limit for stock springs. That being said, I have over 10,000 miles on the stock springs and I do not baby this build.
Went with the 251 cams in my 08 SG 10.5 comp pistons SE MVA CNC Ported heads 58mm TB and no changes to the gearing(yet) they work great. No problem with low end except what problems already existed with the tall gearing, give them a good long honest try before pulling them out to try something else. Will be trying gearing but that is not the cams fault, the gearing was crappy to begin with. Evo has a 49 tooth clutch gear(stock is 46) fix and there are the 30, 31 tooth(stock is 32) trans pulley's and the 70 tooth rear belt pulley(stock is 66)also the Baker DD7 that changes all the gears(more rpm's) except the stock 6th gear matches the new 7th gear exactly. Waiting for the guinea pig's to report on all the fixes!
BW i bet if you bumped that compression up a little more and did A quick clean up on the ports just a quick one iand tuned her real good i am pretty sure you will get into the 110 neighborhood. also when you bump the compression it wakes the low end up some.
