Thought it was a good idea to change my plugs yesterday before it goes for a dynotune today and to my surprise one of the plugs was black and had oil on it (not a good sign). The bike is a 06Fatboy with only 8000kms surely this doesn't indicate worn valve or value seat problem and/or piston rings. Anyway took it to get it dynotune today and shown the plugs to person doing the dyno and worst fears realised he said that there is definitely something wrong and won't know for sure unless he opens her up to have a look ,so the dynotune has been put back . I have left the bike with him and expecting a call from in the next few days, just my luck. Has anyone experience this kind of problem with so little kms would of thought any head work would be up towards the 80-100,000 not 8000ks?
Valve seals! What is the production date. If it ran good, it probably needs the updated valve seals put in. A honest service writer would have said something about it. It was a problem.

The production date is Jan or feb 06, should this still be covered by HD under warranty even though it has ran out? The bike as I can gather is running good. I did notice it going through a little oil but I thought it was normal to use up a little oil early in its life(about 100mls per 1000k)now i know where the oil was going. I also had three ocassions of misfire on start up.Apart from that no problems.
Got an answer on one of my questions HD is not covering the repair because
1. out of warranty and
2. haven't been back since first service.
Oh well worth a shot but the laws are little different here in Australia, if you haven't got your service book stamped by a qualified mechanic, you are in trouble in the warranty department.
This repair is a little too much for my skill level so I am leaving it to Dyno shop that has my bike.
Most of these went back to the dealer under warranty or extended warranty. Even learning that it was a problem and the seal was changed with a updated # it wasn't any kind of recall. After the warranties expired, some dealers still covered them as a good Faith gesture. Others didn't care if it was 1 day or 1 mile out, you were paying. You can try to get your dealer to cover it, the worse he will say is no!
