Yep, that is what they say but put an oil temp gauage on any stock 07 and you will see the temps go past 230 easily, hard cruising will bring it up to 250 and idling in traffic can see 280 to 300. That is why they put the temperature management download into 07 and up ECMs, to combat the high engine temps that you will see in traffic.

I have T-Max and oil cooler...Did some log runs last summer and bike ran between 220-225 Temp while cruising. I set the engine warning light at 290 so I know sooner rather than later when the motor's getting hot in traffic.

I bought my '07 Ultra bout a month ago with 5000 mi. on it. It got hot REAL fast. I have put a Arlen Ness Big Sucker AC on it and Rush slip on mufflers. The engine noise is a lot less, runs smoother, does not get as hot, has more felt power, sounds better. More cool air in. More hot air out. I am not a smart man. That is just basic physics. And I have not even had the Stage 1 download done to it yet. Much less an oil cooler.

The warning light you set is for head temp with tmax. 300 is a good head temp to run in this case and not really out of the norm. 350 would be a good head redline. Head and oil temp, while somewhat related can often take different paths with temps and should be monitored separately for a total view of what's going on. You must see the engine light come on a lot set at 290?

I knew lots of guys were reporting higher than 230* temps....I just attempted to inform on what the HD factory shop manual stated. I've seen oil temps in the 240-250 range myself when ambient is above 90* or so.

Is there some kind of service bulletin on this? If so got a link or # for us?

Thanks.

There was actually a service bulletin and most customers got a letter concerning taking their bikes back in and having the download done. Late 07's and up were built with the temp management programmed in. The bulleting was for early 07s, and If memory serves me rith, anything built after about Feb. was preprogrammed. Check with your dealer, sorry dont have the bulletin number.

I was getting 230 240 with an ambient temp of 70 deg. Some city driving. I need to look up th vin #. Bought the bike used with no warrenty. Had stage 1 and oil cooler. Guess I need to get a tunner and better exhaust to breath better. These engines are so choked up from the factory and the exhaust acts like a catilitic converer kickin hot air back to the engine. I have drilled extra holes in the baffles of the slip ons to breath a little better. I am guessing when I get better exhaust, tunner and have it dyno'd it should run cooler.

The synthetic oil can take the heat but the the engine parts (gaskets etc.) can't take the heat.

This is my common sense and wondering if I am correct.

A chime in from Perth western Australia. This is a HOT place, more so than many US states.

2008 Anniversary FXSTC softail custom. Factory oil cooler fitted from 1600 K's ( 1000 miles).Stage 1 SERT download, Khrome Werks mufflers ,HD-1499 air filter and XiED's.

Runs on the oil temp dipstick at 200F all the time if you're moving reasonably. 230F if you've been crawling.

That's probably OK, as it showed 250 F+ on occasion before the oil cooler went on.

Mobil 1 V-twin or Redline 20 W 60HD depending what I can get.

I run Redline 20/50 and routinely run at about 210. No other changes in terms of downloads, air or exhaust.
