Default Changing The build !

Well after the harley shop got through with my 103 build, I wasn't very happy at all. 103 plus heads. 10:5.1 forged pistons, S&S 585 gear cams reinhart true duels, 101 tq 98 hp .

I was thinking on getting red of the 103 plus heads the pistons and cam and going with reworked stock heads, flat top pistons ,255 cams and D&D fat cat 2 into 1 . Was told i could get 112 tq with a good tune. 99% of my riding is between 2300 and 3500 rpm. The only problem is, I really would love to have gear driven 255 cams rather than chain. Is that possible ?

What year is your bike? If it's 2007 or newer, there is no reason to go with gears....stick with the hydraulic tensioners. I'd recommend a different cam, depending on what you're looking for. I would definitely recommend the fat cat exhaust.

do yourself a favor and stay away from the harley dealership for performance work. Call one of the great independent shops. You'll be much happier in the long run. I'd recommend Hillside, but that's just me.

If you are going to drop that much money back into the build, I would recomend going with aftermarket components, a full Headquarters build, Let them work your stock heads, throw in their pistons and a set of 575 cams and you won't be disappointed. Oh, and the Fatcat will help any build, it is a great pipe.

I would recommend a swap to a Fatcat and try out a Wood's Tw6h with your setup. With both of those TUNED you will love it again.

If you really want to work the heads again stock are great blanks to do so, other wise the 103+'s are good as well ported. Did 2 103's with those heads ported and both builds were GREAT!

The pipes should really go though...

The OP certainly has reason to be miffed with that build. I took my cookie cutter 95" Harley shop build to my local harley shop and spoke with the motor guy there. He told me that if I went with the Pro-Pipe or Fatcat with stock milled and ported heads, stock pistons with hand matched rings, 211 cams a 3 angle valve job, adjustable P-Rods he could get me into the 100's on both ends.

I didnt want to run a 2-1 pipe and used a set of Big shot staggereds which ended up at 93Hp and 104Tq with the above engine work after a good tune with Direct Link at the local mastertuner.

Cost me $850 plus the tune. I would think that the OP's 103 build is down on HP and TQ. Whilst I like the motor guy at my local dealer and they will do stuff at a discounted price I do not let them tune my bike!

Those blue lines are what happened to my bike when we dynoed it on a set of standard big shots with baffles prior to the engine work and getting the larger staggered pipes on the bike. NO Good!

I have the Andrews 54H and a near flat line over 100ftlbs, from 3000 - 5000rpm. Have the stock heads ported and keep the hydraulic tensioners, I would not go for the gear drive. It is really not needed. I have the stock valves in my heads, although the seats and valves were cut. What did your dyno sheet look like, why not try a 2 into 1 first and see what gains you achieve.
I know the sheet shows 25 disc, there are only 20 installed.

+1 on installing 2n1 pipe first then decide.

I got 99 hp and 114 torque with a 103 with flat tops and a Wood 6-6. It had stock heads. I think you should expect more from your build. Also think Harley cams may not be the best solution.
