engine mods?
If you are going to have your engine apart, why not go to a 95" big bore? I recently purchased this big bore kit:

I am building mine this weekend (hopefully) with 37G's. I also sent a set of heads & jugs to BigBoyz for bore, port/polish/mill. I had all the machine work done for just over $500. That includes bore cylinders, port & polish heads, and mill the heads such that the assembled compression ratio will be 9.7:1 using cometic gaskets.
Bean, at BigBoyz, was most helpful in assisting me with my configuration selection. I have used TW26A's and TW55G's on two other builds. Both rocked, but this one should be more of a best of both worlds, as I am not going w/Hi-compression and should still have good rideable power.
Regarding pistons.... the S/E cast flat-tops are great pistons. They are cheap, durable, and have the teflon coating on the skirts that really helps reduce noise from skirt slap on the cylinder walls....
Give Bean a holler... you'll be glad ya did.
Let us know what you decide to do.
What you've been told is 100% true.... BUT .....
The added compression makes life tuff on starter clutches. I know compression are "supposed to help"... but after replacing the starter clutch serveral times on my last bike and having the problem start when I'm on the road somewhere.... I'm not going there again!
If I can get satisfactory performance w/o risking starter problems.... that's what I'm after.
Again - there are many opinions and everyone has their own, but that's mine.
