I have 2003 Softail Standard fuel injected. I have recently developed a back fire when raising the RPM'S to downshift. Can anyone give me some ideas on whats causing this and how I may be able to fix this...Thanks Henry
Have you made any recent changes to bike such as new exhaust or air cleaner? If not, look for intake leak, Harley's intake seals are notorious for leaking.

I agree with you, since the backfire is on decel only.
no recent changes. I had the exhaust put on prior to delivery. Will this leak hurt my bike by running it before fixing it or is this something I shound have harley fix ASAP?

You can check for intake leaks, by spraying carb cleaner with the engine idling around the intake manifolds, if the idle increases you have a leak, just don't spray it near the air filter, you will get a false reading, spray from the opposite side of the bike from the air cleaner. Also check the exhaust flange nuts at the cyclinders and make sure they are tight, sometimes I have found them loose.
