what about cam tension shoes failing @ 25000 MILES? true? some say you will see orange stuff in your oil? Does manual say to replace them? Aand wouldnt they be covered under extended warranty?
Yes, very possible. the cam chains on 04-05 ish are a bit rough and wear the shoes. I have a set on my 2000 that look perfect at 20k, but my 05 were half way gone at 13k. Mike
Just had mine done at 50k. They were a little over half gone, but were making a lot of noise. Put in the hydraulic kit, no worries for as long as I'll have the bike.
They can fail at 20k or 50k+. They should be checked at ~30k. If it were my bike with 25k, I would have a look. Not that hard to check. Get a manual and search tensioners, you will find lots of info about it...
Pull the exhaust and cam cover and see how they look. All it costs is a bit of time and a cam cover gasket. I just changed mine at 39K and they could have gone further, but they were pretty chewed up.
On my 03RK classic. I replaced the tensioners at 26K miles - and they were done. (I really need to figure out how to post pictures /sigh). The outer was probably only half used up if that, but the inner was worn past the pad and into the support - not quite metal, but really really close. It was not disintegrated, but... I did not fix it any too soon.
I did lifters as well and now I have a loudest sewing machine on the planet !
I am hoping adjustable pushrods will fix this with the aftermarket lifters. Other wise, I am getting stock lifters and seeing where I am at.
Other than SE slipons, and K&N air filter - I am stock.
