terrible backfiring after 20 min warm up for first 2 miles
this problem just started when the weather cooled off a bit. i will let the bike warm up for 15-20 min and when i get on it to ride it will backfire very badly for the first couple of miles and then clear right up once it is warm. i have changed the plugs and it doesnt make a difference.
i just replaced the choke cable and was hoping that would help some but nothing with that either. the old plugs were a little black so i'm thinking it may be running a little rich.
is there anything i can try to adjust that wont mess up the carb????
Dude if it's idled that long without any air I'd say your to hot and after it cools down it runs normal, sometimes when it's hot or you get stuck in traffic the motor could cough abit until you get moving again to cool things off, I never let mine run over 5 mins tops when warming up unless it's very cold.
i replaced the plugs and tried a shorter warm up and it seemed fine tonight. i'll try it again tomorrow and see if the long warm up was the problem.
i bought the bike with a broken choke so i have been setting the throttle screw to let to warm up till last week. now that i have a choke i guess i will have to re learn the warm up process
you should use the choke as little as possible. I agree with other posts that you might be letting it warm up a little to long with the choke out and its causing the plugs to foul until you run it down the street and clear it out.
