Default Next step???

Hello all,

My '99 Fatboy (Evo) has until now what if I'm correct is called the "stage 1" mods which are: high flow intake, 42mm mikuni, performance spark plugs, screamin' eagle coil, wires and ignition module and a Thunder header 2 into 1 exhaust system. I really want more out of those 80 cubic inches, I need your help... What would be the very next step towards getting the juice outta the engine?

What would you think of an engine upgrade kit? is there any?

Thank you in advance for your help on this.

Mimo.

Call Andrews, S&S, or Woods and get a better cam. Talk with each technical department and get their recommendation for your bike and your kind of riding.

Pull the heads and have them reworked. 3 angle valve cut, bee hive valve springs, and a general clean up of the ports. A light polish of the chamber is nice if you decide to increase compression.

If the bike has more than about 25K miles or so, I would really consider replacing the pistons and boring the jugs. Increase the displacement. It's a small expenditure in parts, and an even smaller one for the labor since the heads are already off. You can easily increase the compression, too.

Change the gearing. That will make the bike a lot stronger, but you'll lose some top end speed (raises cruising rpm's).

Actually now that you ask, from all the performance mods that I've made to my ride the carb was the "real deal" nothing before felt like the mikuni, it gave me an instant response in acceleration, my bike reacts sharp as it is supposed to. I felt that 42 was enough when I bought it. They offered the 44 and the 45 as well, but since I was not planing to go serious on performance mods 42 was ok.

Bottom line I'm happy with my carb, but I need more juice!!!

Than you bobcowan,

I trying to go over each and every one of you reccomendations, I'm familar with mechanic terms but I must be honest, my native lenguaje is spanish so I'm doing my best to figure your advice.

Believe it or not, my bike being a '99 has only 4,000 original Kilometers, sometimes I feel that the response lag in my engine is that it is not settled yet, could this be possible???

I have considered the 6-Speed gearing kit, you definitively think that this would help in power??? I mean, I've tried the new Street bob's and feels like pure torque.

One thing I've detected, it responds great reving up but reaching certain point (no the gear's limit) it drops down, you know what I mean?, the acceleration decreases gradually... I believe this is not normal, do you think that this could be a carburation tuning issue???

Thank you all for your help towards what you may consider rookie crap.

Mimo.
