Engine clatter

I got a 86 FLH big twin. Lot of miles (60,000) At about 2800 rpm, at a steady cruise I get a clatter noise. I can't tell if it is top end or bottom end. I'm an auto technician, but not familiar with HD's. It doesn't matter which gear, just related to rpm. If anybody know of any pattern failures please point me in a general direction. Thanks

1) check your motor mounts
2) check your head bolts. The could be loose.
3) If that don't work, pull your heads and jugs and check the piston to wall clearance. It might be time for a bore job.
