Default A question regarding pistons

I'm doing research for my engine build this fall. I was looking at Wiseco piston and see that there are standard and oversized pistons. Can someone educate me as to why so many choices and the effect oversize has?
I'll probably just end up calling GMR to hook me up when I'm ready but I'd still like to know.
Thanks

Duting use, the cylinder bores wear, usually in an oval shape. To get them roound and smooth again, they are bored a little bit, .020", .030", etc. To match the bores, you need a piston that's the same oversize. It's also how you get a bigger engine. You create a 95" engine by boring the cylinders bigger and replacing the pistons.

You'll also see three differant types of pistons - cast, hypereutectic, and forged. Unless you're racing or using a power adder, stick with cast or hypereutectic. They are considerably cheaper, quieter, and will last forever.

So, when I have my stock cylinders bored to 95" specs the standard size pistons for a 95" build should work fine. Is this correct?

IMO, forged pistons are for engines that are going to exceed 10.5:1 compression or over 6200 RPM's or are going to use some sort of boost (turbo, blower, NOS).

I believe if you send your jugs to Wiseco and buy their pistons the will bore and fit them for a little over $300.Call first, I'm pretty sure but I don't work there so I'm not 100%.

I've used Keith Black hypereutectic pistons in V8's. Run them hard in the 6,000 range without a problem. Good product, no complaints.

I was looking in some catalogs and the KB pistons seemed about the most resonable priced.

IMO(note i'm a boosted drag race guy), and i've bought thousands of dollars worth of pistons in many makes(Ross is my fav but CP & Wiseco for bikes are excellent) and compositions..i like a good forged piston...it takes heat better, it is lighter(less reciprocating weight), & it takes more abuse....cast is stock, hyperutectics are somewhat better but just an imposter for the mighty FORGED piston
