If this work is already underway with your chosen tuner you really should be asking his advice. If he has suggested selecting one of the three cams you list, talk through with him what they each bring to the party. You have had replies from two builders, so you could phone one of them!

I appreciate all the feedback here guys. it's difficult to post all pertinent info (my typin' skills suck, huge canyon separates the knowledge level may posters posses and mine, etc.) I did talk to my wrench and service manager (2 diiferent guys) about what I want outta the bike after the build. primarily interested in more "pop' in the "bottom end" i.e. torque. want more "jump" @ 30-60 mph, 60-80+ mph. not as interested in 120+mph (let's be honest here: just ain't got the stones to ride THAT fast). this may be a good place to mention that i had a cam bearing FAIL. bike had to be repaired and thought process was/is while we're in there let's "upgrade", increase displacement, power, torque, ... wasn't unhappy with the performance BEFORE cam shaft bearing took a crap!!

before i talked to the guys a dealership, my guy told me they may recommend a SE 203 cam (they actually suggested a 204). He tells me i won't be happy with the 203 and suggested as an alternative a 256. SE now has a 255 and a 257... thus the cam "can of worms" is now open. Heck i got so many of the little boogers crawlin round on my basement floor now i am tempted to just buy a new fishin' pole and go find a hole of water!!! ARRRRGGH!!

seriously though guys, i do so appreciate all the input. keep 'em coming cuz i'm learning alot here and that's a good thing!!

For better street performance in traffic and on the highway I use the Head Quarters 500 cam in my 09 RKC. No complaints and much improved drivable performance in the 2000 - 4500 rpm range.

i was sorta leanin' toward the red shift 577TC. are you familiar with them? will the extra lift work with my stock heads? I like the woods too, which one are you referring to the 6G or 6HG. The higher lift will give me more on the top end, right?

Wrong. The higher lift gives you more low end which is streetable. Longer duration gives you more top end which is more for track performance than street, imho.

the tw6 is a 510 lift cam the tw6h is a 590 lift both cut from the same center line . diffrent lift. the more lift will give you more top end with these cams .. now the tw6 is a great little cam. with the gear 4 degree advance next yr just get head work and pull the advance out and you will have a diffrent motor,
my personal favorite it the T-Man 525 cam with baisley super stock heads. or T-man stg 1 head. good economical build.
what ever you do make sure your tuner can tune.
if you were willing to spend some time on the road i would call dave from JD,s cycleworks in PA 1-610-297-0321 he has guys all over the country coming to him for tuning ad engine building. guys are coming down from canada on a weekly basis for him to build and tune bikes that says a lot about his integrity and quality oif the product that is passing thru his door.
second to none. done once and done right.
give him a call. what do you have to lose. 10 minutes of phone time.
as far as the red shift cam go not really sure about the smaller cams but the bigger cams was one of the ones that Baisley wants us to try next season . he is a big fan of those cams a lot of racers use them.
good luck

Just a thought if you contact the cam manufactuers tell them what you are doing to your engine they truly know what the best cam is. In my opinion head work is the biggest waste of money for 99% of riders sure your going to gain an extra 10-12 horspower at 6000 rpm the only thing youll realy have to show for that head work is a dyno sheet that to prove you got all that HP.

well thats your opinion and i can send you charts from stock bikes to wild drag racers. head work is part of a package. when all the parts together it equals a very sizeable gain in performance and reliability. thats right reliability tuned right with head work and a set of cams i know bikes that are making 20 horse power and tq over a sock motor at 2000 rpm.95 ci bikes with cast pistons so it is not only for high rpm riding.. taking into account that harley have the lowest horsepower and torque rating among any motorcycle mfg in the world compared to the size of their bikes and weight factor.
think about this a 850 lb ultra classic loaded down with gear for 2 riders with a fat *** wife and fat driver will probley tip he scales at 1500 lbs yea thats what i want all 68 ft lbs of tq and 70 hp when they jump out in front of the semi rollin up on them at 80 mph sayin look at me im on a harley big deal but people do it every day
i weigh 175 lbs have 120 ci motor with a lot of power in a softtail and wheni get on it i have no doubt that it is going to be able to get up and go when i want.. mine is over kill but a good performance package up grade in todays world is a nobrainer
as far as the cam goes do not call the mfg they are all going to tell you their cam does this and that he is doing the right thing by askin questions i have been thru several motors and cams only thru trial and error and a **** load of cash have i learned what to do and not to do.
