88 -> 95, which cam?
think about this a 850 lb ultra classic loaded down with gear for 2 riders with a fat *** wife and fat driver will probley tip he scales at 1500 lbs yea thats what i want all 68 ft lbs of tq and 70 hp when they jump out in front of the semi rollin up on them at 80 mph sayin look at me im on a harley big deal but people do it every day
i weigh 175 lbs have 120 ci motor with a lot of power in a softtail and wheni get on it i have no doubt that it is going to be able to get up and go when i want.. mine is over kill but a good performance package up grade in todays world is a nobrainer
as far as the cam goes do not call the mfg they are all going to tell you their cam does this and that he is doing the right thing by askin questions i have been thru several motors and cams only thru trial and error and a **** load of cash have i learned what to do and not to do.
Anyone contemplating building an engine should seek out informed opinions from those that have the experience, done many builds and yes, even made mistakes along the way. Doing just cams, get a set that works for you where you ride, going farther, put together a proven package, whether it be a kit from one builder, or different components recommended by a competent person that have been proven to work well together.
And lastly, there is so much bad information, as well as the good on these forums that you really need to not take anyones word as gospel until you learn of their their reputation. There are some here with great knowledge and reputation.
thanks for the input. i must admit i was sceptical at best to "trust" ALL the intel from this site... rest assured i do try to verify what i glean from here. it appears you know SEDELUXE on fnb (first name basis) AND respect his knowledge/opinion. I mentioned in another post that the fact that he has a "Baisley" sticker on his avatar caught my attention. my wrench says these guys know their stuff!!
SEDELUXE
Thanks for the advise and patience with my ignorance (lack of knowledge). you give me the impression of being the sort worthy of paying attention to... you're response to steve was interesting in many ways. commend you for not "unloading" on him and simply stating he's entitled to his opinion... your statement "...jump out in front of the semi rollin up on them at 80 mph sayin look at me im on a harley big deal but people do it every day" said alot to me. I have to agree that some people do exaactly that every day. rest assured I DON'T WANNA BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE!!

I am pretty much committed now so I'll, out of courtesy, post an update after the job is finished and i get a chance to "check it out" from the saddle. FYI my guy is pretty particular about a lot of stuff, he's suggested doing a 100 mile break in then drop the oil and "autopsy" the filter (primarily looking for big chunks, if present - open her back up & fix), another 400 (equal to the "builder's" recommended 500 mile breakin) miles - change again; then once more at 1000. Synthetic after the 1K. Sounds radical/extreme/what ever but the concept i grasp fully. if there's a problem find it early (100 miles vs 500 miles), if no anomolies found let's get ALL the "shavings" out before actually asking the bike to really perform.
again thank you all for the input. hope to see some of ya out on the road!!

We are Bob Wood's largest account, worldwide, and lost track of this thread, but would have strongly suggested a TW-6 (or 5).
Keep us posted as how you like the 54.

"I did talk to my wrench and service manager (2 diiferent guys) about what I want outta the bike after the build. primarily interested in more "pop' in the "bottom end" i.e. torque. want more "jump" @ 30-60 mph, 60-80+ mph. not as interested in 120+mph"
...statement?

I'm really liking this build; so far, so good. I was able to get a feel for the bike's "strength" a few days back when a friend & I went for ~ 1/2 day ride. Clocked 200th mile post build early in the ride and then hit three diffrent stretches of "twisty" pieces of pavement. My first comment is/was: 3rd gear at 3k rpm is REALLY fun!! Got several new scraps on the board from pushin' her through the turns. FYI - 221 south outta Roanoke, hwy 8 east of tuggle's gap and hwy 40 from woolwine to ferrum are really nice routes. highly recommend and if anyof you guys are planning to be in that part of the world let me know, perhaps i'll meet ya somewhere and buy ya a cup of coffee!!
I don't have any "dyno" data and haven't had the opportunity to check out the "top end" (or as SE said, really let it loose!) YET! I am truly grateful to, not just you 3, but to all who showed an interest in my "project"
