Default Quick question about baffles...

I just put the Big Shots Staggered on my Dyna the other day. They look awesome and they are definitely loud! Are you supposed to be able to see directly down the exhaust pipe? I always thought the baffle sat more or less in the center of the pipe, or is it pressed around the inside edge? I did see what looked like some sort of coils running in a rifling pattern around the inside of the pipe. Is that the baffle? I love the sound but I ordered some quite baffles to just to tone it down a bit.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me,

Aaron

That's the baffle. All they do is stir up the air flow which does 2 things, lowers the noise level, and creates backpressure that helps engine performance. Too much backpressure is just as bad a thing as too little though, so it's a balance act.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Fairly simple concept I guess!

Thanks for the help,

Well, here's another question for everyone. I just got the quiet baffles today, and I'm itching to see how they sound. I love the sound of the original baffles though as well. Anyways, I can't get to the second screw that holds the original baffles in, so I need to remove the heat sheilds. I'm assuming that I can take the heat sheilds off without removing the pipes, correct? I'm also assuming that I do that by completely loosening the screws with the round metal rings-it looks like these hold the heat shields on- then slipping the heat sheilds off? I was about to try it tonight, but it's getting dark and I don't have a garage. Any help is always appreciated!
