Forget about static CR and setup cams and heads for target corrected (running) CR of about 9.3. Use cranking compression to determine whether or not compression releases are required; cranking compression above 190 would benefit from compression releases; cranking compression above 200psi needs compression releases. IMHO.

i agree with djl...have been running a dyna with 200 cranking compression for 14k miles...had a road king with at least 205 for 30k miles before and no problems with it either....however we must use compression releases, premium gas, and keep the revs above 2500 with really high compression

The cam will dictate the mechanical compression ratio.
For instance, with a Wood 8, you want just about 10.5--10.8.
You cannot just arbitrarily poke compression at an engine.
