Default octane boost

when i picked up my 2010 ultra classic the service manager said it may be a good idea to get some sort of octane boost to keep in the saddlebag just in case i cant find anything 92 octane or above.
That being said is there one addative thats better than others?
Thanks

You really shouldnt need that for a stock bike. If you do, get it tuned....

That being said, Lucas makes one that small and easy to carry on the bike. Or the old rocket fuel packs are easy to carry.

Don't waste your money! Octane boosters in your store will only raise your octane "several points" meaning from 89 octane to 89.4 octane. For times when you cannot purchase premium fuel, carry an MSR 33-oz. fuel canister full of toluene or xylene. You can buy the solvents at paint stores or even Home Depot, but chemical supply houses will give you a better price point. Toluene and xylene are common industrial octane boosters that are already in the fuel you buy.

As Firetender indicated, a "point" is one tenth of an octane. Most boost products advertise raising octane a full point or two so not enough to make a difference. Withthe correct tune, you can run on fuel with less octane than is usually used - all you have to do is change your shift points and not lug the engine until you can get a tankful of the good stuff.

A couple years ago I was out west where gas somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 or 4 octane was the only thing available. Well it was actually around 85 or thereabouts. I tried to pooch the bike but it was hot and just plain unhappy. I bought some NOS brand octane booster and put the recommended amount into the tank. This did make a marked improvement.

Firetender is right-on with what those chemicals do.
If you do a search, I believe this subject has been discussed at great length, on this message board, and on others, as well.

The idea is right.
Around here in SE TEX 93 Octane is everywhere. but if I wondered off, which the older I get might happen anytime, I would carry some helper.
