I have a '95 Fatboy stock carb. When I pull the Enrichener out to start, the bikes fine. Idles good everything is perfect. Now if i have the Enrichener out and try to roll the throttle in first gear it stumbles. If i go past half throttle or more then it clears up but I have to have the enrichener off for normal driving.
I just finished replacing all 3 seals on the intake manifold (2 for each head and 1 for the carb mount). The manifold wasnt angled properly causing the carb to tilt within the manifold seal causing an air leak. Well, it now idles much better which previously was a little erratic due to the air leak. But, my issue still remains with the enrichener. I have pulled, Cleaned, and inspected the carb. No tears in the diaphragm. The slide appears to move smoothly enough although I haven't watched it as I rev the engine to see if there is any hesitation.
Any ideas or suggestions as to why the enrichener will cause it to act this way? Driveability is great through all ranges of throttle so long as enrichener is off.
i do believe that mine does that. i thought i could ride it with the enrichment pulled, like driving with the choke on a car pulled out, but it will stumble. i just wait until its warmed up.
I agree. if it runs well once the engine is warm, then you've got a lot to be happy about. All carb'd engines seem to have an attitude about warming up.
I guess I may have been thrown off by the service manual. It says to start with enrichener fully out ride for a few minutes. Then go halfway for 2 more miles before going fully off. This is for both below/above 50 degrees. Well after almost a year of owning the bike and riding it this way I finally realized that the intake manifold and the carb were not aligned properly causing an air leak. So replaced all the seals, aligned the intake manifold to the carb and no more air leak. Now to replace the fuel line joint to the carb since its cracked and showing signs of leaking.
